From Peachpit authors and fans
Here's what Peachpit authors and readers have to say about the Visual QuickStart Guide series and our new VQS Online Library.
From Peachpit authors...
I can't imagine being more impressed with the Visual QuickStart Online Library. Wow! The format is very intuitive, and new users will quickly learn how to navigate books, perform keyword searches, make personal comments for later reference, manage shared bookmarks, and create colleague lists for more effective collaboration.
As a Web developer, I especially appreciate the ability to create bookmarks, share them with other readers, and be notified via e-mail when someone has created a new bookmark for me to reference. The ability to search multiple books in the Online Library is also a great reference tool!
--Mark Bell, author of BBEdit 4 for Macintosh: Visual QuickStart Guide
What a perfect vehicle for our books, since they're broken down into short topics anyway! It's so easy to navigate to each topic using the topics (our subheads) on the left side of the screen, and the text is nicely broken up by all the pictures. The ability to search for specific words or phrases is a great navigation tool. For newcomers to the Peachpit Visual QuickStart Guides, having books online gives people a real taste of what they can expect in the printed version, with an easy link to purchase. For online junkies, this is heaven.
--Elaine Weinmann and Peter Lourekas, authors of Illustrator 8 for Macintosh and Windows: Visual QuickStart Guide, LiveMotion for Windows and Macintosh: Visual QuickStart Guide, Photoshop 5.5 for Windows and Macintosh: Visual QuickStart Guide
It looks really great and easy to navigate for the serious researcher. I think that this will be an invaluable aid for computer classes that traditionally rely on physical textbooks. Imagine always having the most up to date version of the text at your fingertips without having to lug around an extra 10 pounds in your backpack. And, as with all good hypertext, if one of the Visual QuickStart Guide books cross references to another (for example the DHTML book mentions a JavaScript technique), then you have both books to reference.

From Peachpit readers...
I just wanted to thank you for the Visual Quick Start Guides. I purchased HTML 4 for the World Wide Web: Visual QuickStart Guide. That book helped me tremendously. I've completely worn it out. I absolutely love the combination of pictures with brief explanations. I really was up and running in no time! I loved the guide so much, I have since brought others. Photoshop 5.5 for Windows and Macintosh: Visual QuickStart Guide is excellent. I could not wait for the Illustrator 8 for Windows and Macintosh: Visual QuickStart Guide to come out (I have that one two). I went from being a Desktop Publisher to Webmaster in a very short time, no formal classes. I owe a lot of my success to the Visual Quick Start Guides.

Your (Visual QuickStart Guide) books are not only great, they surpass any books on the market today. You have a particular flair in presenting the material. Cut to the chase--yes!

Let me first start off by stating how much I am enjoying using your Visual QuickStart Guides. These are, by far, the best books I've used for teaching my students. The students find these books easy to use.... We are now ordering new books every quarter.
--Kenneth W. Herndon
I just want to take this time to say how pleased I am with the Visual QuickStart Guide series of computer books... These books are easy to understand. It's like I don't even have to read the book. I could look at the photos of the code and its effect and make my adjustments to suit my needs. I will continue to buy from this series.

I've used the Visual QuickStart Series in my classes at a community college very successfully for several years. I show the students how to use the programs and when to use the various features. They then use these books to help them actually do the steps to achieve their desired results. The books are set up so my students can easily follow the directions to produce their own designs. These students, like most art students, don't like to read. The well written but short clear steps don't deter them from reading. And the pictures don't keep them from reading, which is sometimes the case. Bravo to the authors who keep producing these useful standards!
--Cathy Latourelle
I just wanted to tell all of you great people at Peachpit Press thank you so much for your Visual QuickStart Guide series. I have used these books since the mid '90s and they have helped me tremendously in my profession. I really am not a big fan of reading because I am always working and on the run. These books break things down so easily that I am able to get the information I need quickly and "keep on trucking." Thanks again for making such a great series!
