Ahhh, you gotta love that new camera smell, right? It’s always exciting to unbox a new piece of equipment, especially a camera. I want to unwrap the packaging, put the lens on, insert a new memory card, and start rediscovering the world photographically. Sound familiar? Instead of being patient and at least glancing at the owner’s manual, I’m always eager to break in the shutter on my new camera!

Of course, this behavior always leads to frustration in the end—there are always issues that would have been easily addressed had I known about them before I started shooting. Maybe if I had a Top Ten list of things to know, I could be more productive without having to spend countless hours with the manual. So this is where we begin.
