Downloading Commands

So you have gone through all the commands in Fireworks and you still want more. Well, lucky you—you can download more commands. Additional features, including commands, can be shared between Fireworks users using the same technology used for sharing plug-ins for Dreamweaver and Flash: the Extension Manager.

The Extension Manager is a piece of software that developers can use to easily extend any of the Studio MX tools (Flash, Fireworks, Dreamweaver, and ColdFusion). If you have installed any of these tools, you already have the Extension Manager installed.

The function of the Extension Manager is to place Studio MX formatted extensions (they have an .mxp extension to them) with the correct software. You can download dozens of extensions for Fireworks.

The best place to start is the Macromedia Exchange. Currently, Fireworks extensions are found only within the Dreamweaver Exchange. You can find the Fireworks extension by going to http://exchange.macromedia.com. Click on the Dreamweaver Exchange link and select Fireworks from the drop-down menu. Yeah, it's a bit of a hike, but you get there eventually.

Some other sites you can check out are listed here:

www.mxzone.com
www.fwzone.net
www.playingwithfire.com

Each of these sites has additional commands that you download. Why not create a few of your own extensions as well?
