Step Eight

Click on the original Background layer and press Command+J (PC: Control+J) to duplicate it. Use one of the methods described to convert this layer to a Smart Object and drag it to the top of the Layers palette.

From the Filter menu choose Sharpen>Unsharp Mask and position the preview window over a detail area such as the eyes.

Enter settings that give you the desired amount of sharpening (remember that you can change the settings later if necessary).
