Five iPhone Productivity App Picks in Five Days - Grocery IQ

Today’s pick is Grocery IQ, a shopping list app from Coupons Inc.  It’s not just your run-of-the-mill shopping list, though.  It’s a shopping assistant, and it has changed the way my wife and I shop for groceries.

If you've read my blog posts in the past, then you know that I usually write about AppleScript and Automator, two powerful automation technologies built into Mac OS X.  This week, however, I'll be switching gears to highlight some of my favorite iPhone productivity apps, which can help to streamline both your personal and business life.

Grocery IQ

Today's pick is Grocery IQ, a shopping list app from Coupons Inc.  It's not just your run-of-the-mill shopping list, though.  It's a shopping assistant, and it has changed the way my wife and I shop for groceries.

Browsing a Shopping List

At its most basic level, Grocery IQ allows you to quickly and easily search for products from its huge database, add them to a shopping list, and check them off as you wander through the store.

The real power, however, comes with an initial investment of time to configure it for your specific needs.  Add the stores you visit most frequently, and then build your shopping lists by store. Grocery IQ's interface makes it easy to switch from one store's list to the next, or browse a complete shopping list for all of your stores.  You can even customize and sort aisles to match your actual stores, allowing you to check products off in the order they occur in the store.

Customizing Grocery IQ with Your Stores

Barcode scanning with your iPhone's camera makes it even easier to quickly add products to your shopping list.  You can also create a favorites list of frequently purchased products.  I've built an extensive list of favorites on my iPhone.  Now, whenever we need groceries, I simply scroll through the list, check off whatever we need, and add it to my list.  It couldn't be easier.

One of my favorite features, though, is Grocery IQ's list sharing capability.  With list sharing, my wife can add products to our shopping list from her iPhone, and within moments, they appear in Grocery IQ on mine.  This has no doubt saved me countless trips back to the store for forgotten items.

Grocery IQ is available from the App Store for $0.99, and in my opinion, it's well worth every penny.  The time it saves me while shopping pays for itself time and again.  I highly recommend it for any iPhone user.  For more information, visit Grocery IQ on the web, or pick up a copy in the App Store.
