In memory of Marjorie Baer

It's with great sorrow that we let you know that our friend and colleague Marjorie Baer has passed away at her home in Berkeley after a brave battle with brain cancer.

As Senior Executive Editor, Marjorie influenced all areas of our publishing plans, including acquisitions strategy and editorial development. She delighted in working with authors and in training editors on how to craft good books. Marjorie had the uncanny ability to not only get the thirty-thousand foot view of a project but also to get into the weeds and line edit for grammar, style, and sense. We have all learned so much from her, and we will miss her tremendously.

In recognition of Marjorie's outstanding contributions to the publishing community, Peachpit is establishing a scholarship fund in her honor: The Marjorie Baer Scholarship for Editorial Excellence. Through this scholarship we will encourage and support the careers of aspiring editors—the very people Marjorie took such pride in mentoring.

On a personal note, I ask each of you to take a minute to remember Marjorie today. Remember her keen wit, her kindness, her love of a good walk, her pleasure in a perfectly ripe piece of fruit, her intelligence, her talent. Her spirit.

We love you, Marjorie.
