Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) enable Web designers to separate structures from presentation. Many Weblogs allow visitors to "skin" the Web site meaning the visitor can choose a favorite look and feel and stick with it. This is easily accomplished with CSS.

CSS editors help the designer include all the CSS attributes as there are many and such programs save time of doing markup by hand.

  • Layout Master — Westciv, the creators of CSS Stylemaster, have produced an editor for building standards-based layouts using CSS2 and HTML/XHTML. It complements an HTML or text editor rather than replacing one.

  • Morphon CSS-Editor — Morphon CSS-Editor uses Java to run and you have the option of downloading the program with or without Java.

  • CSS Creator — This is a great learning tool for learning about CSS and a nice sandbox to do experiments. The tool creates CSS based on your preferences for fonts, headers, paragraphs, etc. The only major thing it can’t do is create tableless layouts, which is a challenge for many. After you complete the CSS creator, it produces CSS code to insert into your Web site AND it lets you enter the URL of your Web site to see how it would look.

  • Macromedia Dreamweaver – Dreamweaver is worth a mention in this category because its support for CSS has vastly improved and it works well.

  • Style Master CSS Editor – This CSS editor is available for Windows and Macs. Beginners will appreciate the wizards and hands-on tutorial.

  • Bradsoft TopStyle Pro CSS / XHTML / HTML Editor – The developer of this software is the creator of Macromedia's HomeSite, therefore it seamlessly works with HomeSite and Dreamweaver as well as NoteTab, Bobby Accessibility Validator, W3C HTML Validator and others.

  • Figure 7Figure 7

  • CoffeeCup StyleSheet Maker – Editor gives you control of text placement and tag definitions. Comes with a tutorial and multibrowser testing capabilities.

  • CSS Creator - This is a great learning tool plus it is a nice sandbox to do experiments. After you complete the CSS creator, it produces CSS code to insert into your Web site.

  • Morphon CSS-Editor – Java-based editor that supports CSS1, CSS2, SVG and the new CSS Mobile Profile as defined by the W3C.
