Project Management

Last updated Jan 1, 2004.

Like any other business or software project, project management is also important when building a Web site to ensure the deadlines mesh up with the business goals and marketing plans.

Software organizations use tools to show the relationship between entities. In Web design, we use site maps and information architecture instead. These are often visually mapped using Visio. For most projects, the basic Microsoft Office suite takes care of all documentation including content inventories, mapping, requirements, schedules, and checklists.

  • Microsoft Project – Track and manage tasks, schedules, and progress.

  • Microsoft Visio – A terrific way to create site architecture wireframes, flowcharts, and more to help organize complex systems and relationships.

  • SmartDraw – Another mapping software tool that can do maps and mock ups as well as Gantt charts and timelines.
