When you think of creating Web pages, HTML comes to mind. This is true even for those folks who have only dabbled in Web design. HTML is part of the foundation upon which most Web pages are based.
Is HTML the only language available for the Web? This isn't a frivolous question because the Web is changing. It's likely that you've heard of XML or are even using it, and it's possible that you've heard of XHTML, too. But for most people, even seasoned Web designers, understanding the differences and knowing when to choose one over the other can be difficult.
