Designers today are increasingly called upon to create materials in a wide variety of media, or materials that can be delivered via multiple media, not simply for print or for Web alone. In Creative Suite 5, Adobe has addressed that need by making InDesign a powerful cross-media design tool, so designers can use the main tools that they're familiar with to create documents that not only look beautiful in print, but also provide all the interactivity customers expect when viewed online.
In this 4-hour video (and accompanying reference book), the equivalent of a half-day seminar, print designers learn how to setup an engaging and interactive user experience in a non-coding environment. Further, designers will learn how to prepare an InDesign document to use rich media elements (Flash movies, video, graphics) and set up interactivity using InDesign's buttons, hyperlinks, multistate objects, and animation, and movie panels. Among other things, the techniques taught in the class empower designers to take control and develop interactive documents, which will include animation, video, and user-triggered events. The finished product will include global navigation, sequenced animations of pages, video, and imported animations.

I go back quite a long way in page layout software. I beta tested PageMaker 1.0 for Aldus. Along the way, we felt forced to switch to QuarkXPress and eventually switched back to PageMaker once it was able to generate PDFs, which became the standard for submitting print projects. We started working with InDesign even before version 1.0. The first day Adobe showed it to us, I sat down and began to create a page. It was something of a PageMaker fused together with Quark features. I actually produced three or four InDesign documents before I opened the manual.Better than eleven years and seven and a half versions into in, InDesign (ID) has evolved from a print tool to a publishing tool. I use the term "publishing" in the sense that ID is prepared to allow you to publish electronically, be that via the web, a DVD, a kiosk, just whatever your create mind can conjure up. ID's interactivity can be divided into two arenas: interactive PDFs and Flash. This packaging neatly separates... Read more

I am so glad I bought this title. I am working on two interactive pdfs at my place of work using Adobe Indesign CS5, and I viewed and read the tutorials in this title this past weekend. The Nesting of Master Pages tutorial was a totally new concept for me and I now believe I have cut my revision time in half. I have read and watched numerous books and videos on Indesign and making interactive PDFS, but I think so far this title is has been the most beneficial for me regarding my Interactive Indesign workflow. I hope that the author authors a Adobe Indesign CS6 version of this title.
