I got this book to help me understand my newish Nikon D600 (obviously). However, the book is more about photography basics than it is about the details of camera operation. For, say, a D3200, this would be proper, but I'm assuming that most people who buy this camera are reasonably experienced, either wedding/portrait pros, looking for a reasonably affordable full frame camera or advanced amateurs who want to move up from crop frame to full frame sensors. If you are reasonably new to photography, this book does discuss the discipline in the context of using a D600. If you are past the novice stage, you'll find that the book covers pretty basic stuff, like what aperture and shutter speed are and how to use the rule-of-thirds. If you have the basics, and want your time to be focused on learning your camera, look elsewhere. The coverage of D600 features is superficial and limited. I also bought... Read more

The book is ideal if the D600 is your first DSLR. The author describes even the most basic aspects of photography (What is aperture and how does it influence the look of the image) and always relates it to the appropriate settings on the D600.I knew a bit about photography and DSLRs already but still read the book front to back and could find 10-15 useful information about settings. Well worth it in my opinion.

Great introduction to the camera. It's more about taking photos than a manual for your D600 but that's good because you can take a lot of what's in the book into practice instead of just reading function X and function Y which you will soon forget.Would recommend to anyone with a Nikon camera that has similar features to D600. On D7000, D700 etc, the tips in the book should help. |
