Import from a Volume

The Media Import window enables you to import supported media files. You can choose whether to copy or simply reference the source media files in the Media Import options.

  1. Connect a supported, accessible volume containing the source media files.
  2. Choose File > Import.
  3. In the leftmost sidebar under Devices or Favorites, select the volume containing the source media files.
  4. In the list view, navigate to the desired file or files and click Import.
  5. Set the Media Import options as desired. See the “Media Import Options” section in this chapter for more information. Click Import.

Final Cut Pro allows you to import files by dragging them from the Finder (or another application) to an event, a Keyword Collection, or the Timeline. Be aware that the Import pane settings of Final Cut Pro Preferences will determine if the files are copied, transcoded, or analyzed during import. See Chapter 1 for more about setting preferences.
