Product Author Bios

Scott Kelby is President of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP) and Editor-in-Chief of Photoshop User magazine. Scott serves as training director for the Adobe Photoshop Seminar Tour and is the technical chair of the largest Photoshop gathering in the industry, Photoshop World. He has written numerous best-selling creative technology books, and, for 2011, was named the #1 photography book author for the second year in a row.

ARE YOU READY FOR AN AMAZING NEW VERSION OF THE PHOTOSHOP BOOK THAT BREAKS ALL THE RULES?

Scott Kelby, Editor and Publisher of Photoshop User magazineand the best-selling Photoshop author in the world todayonce again takes this book to a whole new level as he uncovers more of the latest, most important, and most useful Adobe Photoshop CS6 techniques for digital photographers.

This major update to his award-winning, record-breaking book does something for digital photographers that’s never been done beforeit cuts through the bull and shows you exactly “how to do it.” It’s not a bunch of theory; it doesn’t challenge you to come up with your own settings or figure it out on your own. Instead, Scott shows you step by step the exact techniques used by today’s cutting-edge digital photographers, and best of all, he shows you flat-out exactly which settings to use, when to use them, and why. That’s why the previous editions of this book are widely used as the official study guides in photography courses at colleges and universities around the world.

LEARN HOW THE PROS DO IT

Each year, Scott trains thousands of professional photographers on how to use Photoshop, and almost without exception they have the same questions, the same problems, and the same challengesand that’s exactly what he covers in this book. You’ll learn:

  • The sharpening techniques the pros really use.
  • The pros’ tricks for fixing the most common digital photo problems fast!
  • The step-by-step setup for getting what comes out of your printer to match exactly what you see onscreen.
  • How to process HDR (High Dynamic Range) images using CS6’s Merge to HDR Pro.
  • How to master CS6’s Content-Aware features.
  • How to use Photoshop CS6’s new video editing features to make movies from your DSLR videos.
  • How to process RAW images like a pro (plus how to take advantage of all the new Camera Raw features in CS6!).
  • The latest Photoshop special effects for photographers (there’s a whole chapter just on these!).
  • A host of shortcuts, workarounds, and slick “insider” tricks to send your productivity through the roof!
Plus, Scott includes a special bonus chapter with his own CS6 workflow, from start to finish, and each chapter ends with a Photoshop Killer Tips section, packed with timesaving, job-saving tips that make all the difference. If you’re a digital photographer, and if you’re ready to learn all the “tricks of the trade”the same ones that today’s leading pros use to correct, edit, sharpen, retouch, and present their work—then you’re holding the book that will do just that.

I have been a Photoshop user through all of their upgrades, and every step of the way I have had Scott Kelby and Martin Evening helping me adopt, adapt and improve my post-capture processing. A key component of that educational process has been Kelby's Adobe Photoshop CS Series Books for Digital Photographers. I am delighted to finally have my hands on the CS6 version. Here is a quick overview.

Pretty much similar in format as prior versions, Kelby provides a colorful, picture-filled, witty step-by-step process for each of the major steps in making your photos the best that they can be. Included in this version is emphasis on sharpening, HDR, Content Fill Aware, video, RAW images, sizing, printing, black & white, Instagram look (believe it or not) and lastly "killer tips" at the end of each chapter. The latter can save you a lot of time and frustration and are worth the price of book many times over.

I highly recommend you get this book if you are at all... Read more

If you're new to Photoshop CS6 then you should probably start with this book. It works for the beginner and seasoned users too. I have the same book for CS5 and CS4. I refer to them all the time. Great stuff. Cheers!

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
Scott Kelby, I think, is an acquired taste. I find his approach to Photoshop difficult to deal with. I am sure he is a nice guy, but his comedy shtick falls flat with me as does his hodge-podge cookbook approach.

This book is also handicapped by a typeface that is simply too small for comfortable reading.

None of those criticisms detract from the fact that Kelby knows his stuff and writes well. This is not a book for beginners, nor is it it a thorough reference on Photoshop CS6. (The Martin Evening book is far superior in this regard.) The subject mix, putting it mildly, is diverse: Mini-Bridge, Camera Raw, resizing and cropping photos, creating black and white photos, creating HDR photos, fixing common problems, special effects, sharpening, color management and editing DSLR video.

The treatments are not exhaustive, but suffice to learn very specific tasks.

Example photos and some additional chapters are downloadable from a companion... Read more
