Learn time-saving techniques for sorting, ranking, and organizing images for use in different jobs. And discover effective ways to publish images for client review and keep your online portfolio up to date automatically. This book's real-world exercises feature professional photography from a variety of genres, including landscapes, portraits, wedding, and wildlife photography.

I had the first Aperture 3 Pro Series training book and I thought it was incredibly thorough. Sometime more thorough than a hobby photographer really needs, but perfect for anyone hoping to gain a very strong understanding of Aperture. The book was designed as a class and not a reference guide so the best way to use it was to read the chapters in order and go through the accompanying examples so that you could not only read about the features, but also test them out and see exactly how they should affect the picture you're working on if you are using them correctly. If you try to use it to look up individual features (I tried to use it that way the first time) it will not be very helpful because the book builds a skill base in each chapter and expects you to have some understanding of those skills in later chapters. Without that base the book can be down right confusing.I got a chance to check out the new edition and have found it to be much the same. It is every bit as... Read more

Previous review resulting in two stars: The book and the computer based lessons are excellent. But I am on page 254 of the book and it directs that certain photograph projects be accessed, but they are missing from the dvd downloaded materials. What gives????Updated review resulting in 5 stars: after emailing Peachpit with my problem and getting their prompt response, I learned that the project files are not missing. What happened is that I had skipped lesson 4 because I did not think it was relevant to me, but in so doing I had failed to go through an exercise of merging photo libraries where the end result is that all of the supposedly missing photo projects are picked up. My mistake and it goes to show you that you really need to religiously follow the book's instructions. So, I am revising my rating to be 5 stars....the instructions and lessons really are excellent.

I am not the first to report this problem but it seems that it has remained uncorrected for a long time--note the dates on similar ratings. The book requires that lessons be followed from the enclosed DVD. However, the relevant DVD lessons are missing. I am using the most recent OSX10.8.2 and the most recent edition of the book. The book looks excellent but its usefulness is greatly diminished by a reader's inability to follow along. As sold it is a defective product though some seem to get it to work-perhaps on older operating systems. I am contacting PeachPiit as some have suggested but this really should not be necessary for a product sold on Amazon Prime. |
