Arek Dreyer has been an Apple Certified Trainer since 2002. Originally an expert in Sun systems, Arek shifted his professional focus to Mac OS X shortly after it came out. President of Dreyer Network Consultants Inc., Dreyer has been delivering courses and providing training around the world, both in the classroom and at events like Channel Camp and the Macworld Conference and Expo. Dreyer also provides integration and troubleshooting services for his own customers and for Apple. Along with Ben Greisler, he authored Apple Pro Training Series: OS X Lion Server Essentials.
Ben Greisler is the owner and technical lead of Kadimac Corp, a firm specializing in the integration of OS X and the Macintosh into business IT. Greisler is an Apple Certified Trainer, author, consultant, and lecturer who has been on the Advisory Council of the Apple Consultants Network and the MacIT Committee of the Macworld Expo.

I like this book. First of all, there is this book and the "Dummies" book so not a lot of choices. Between the two I like this one better, and I have both. There are a few things I like about this book over the other one. For one, I like how each chapter lists in the front what the chapter will teach you to do. Yes, it does sound a bit like a class, but it also gets the job done.Reviewing a book like this is always a bit difficult because much of how a book is arranged either matches how you think or it doesn't. To me, I like this book because it doesn't just tell how to do something but a bit why and the prerequisites. That other book got me very frustrated in a few areas, because it did explain how to accomplish something, but it doesn't reliably tell me what needs to be done BEFORE that task is accomplished. With Server many tasks depend on a series of events occurring before them, and to me, this book spells it out better than the other. Another reason I... Read more

Don't get me wrong, in a classroom setting with an instructor – as it is in formal Apple Certification classes – this book would be a superb resource.Unfortunately in a less regimented setting, the book falls short. In fact, the 'do as we tell you' exercises do not impart the needed background or underlying principals that novice server admins should have to be most effective. Far more useful is the 'ML Server for Dummies' book, which does provide a superb resource for aspiring admins. The fault is not Mr. Dreyer's. Im sure that the book was conceived to complement course materials and a course workbook. Without the added components – and the requisite instructor – the book alone falls sadly short. Apple would be wise to distinguish books that are exercise/instructor driven. True, 'Pro Training Series' is a good place to start, but a more explicit description seems in order.
