The Dojo Toolkit is an open-source JavaScript toolkit for building Web applications so dynamic they jump off the page. Filled with special controls like calendars and menus, and special effects like wipes and fade-ins, Dojo is rapidly gaining popularity and is emerging as the toolkit of choice for Ajax applications. The Dojo Toolkit Visual QuickStart Guide covers the highlights of Dojo in detail and is the easiest way to get up and running quickly with Dojo.

3.0 out of 5 stars Typos in Kindle edition, August 7, 2011
This review is from: The Dojo Toolkit: Visual QuickStart Guide (Paperback)
The content is well-presented and is lots of fun.

One typo had me confused for quite a while. In one example, the code for reflect.php is completely wrong. Only after searching Google and seeing an image from the printed book did I find the correct code.

I plan to update this review later based on how many additional typos I encounter, and the associated pain.

Notes:

The "Adding Dijits To A Content Pane" code is also incorrect, and it appears from Google Books that the printed version is also incorrect.

This review is from: The Dojo Toolkit: Visual QuickStart Guide (Paperback)
This is a great little book to get the major concepts of Dojo and how they can be used.
Lots of examples and a step by step approach.
This book would be too simple for advanced programmers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great stuff, August 16, 2010

As a professional developer I found this book saved me huge amount of time in picking up a new framework. Author explains what the essence of the toolkit you need to know, but not more than you need to know, less than say its visual figures are very helpful. I wish author could write more books on other frameworks/toolkits, such as google's closure.

The Dojo Toolkit: Layout Dijits

Errata

Page12, Script 1.7: third code snippet:
src="..../dojo.xd.js"
The book uses the cross-domain version of Dojo that AOL posts, which is automatically up-to-date and means you can run the samples in the book without having to download and install any JavaScript librbary (the "xd" version just means the most up-to-date Dojo version). The correct src looks like this:

<script
   type="text/javascript"
   src="http://o.aolcdn.com/
     dojo/1.1/dojo/dojo.xd.js">
</script>
