I begin this article by asking for forgiveness. I own a PC and have used it for many years. Sorry. About a year ago, I bought an iPod, and it was love at first sight. It did not take me long to realize that I could extend the functionality of my iPod by synching email, notes, calendar, and tasks. Being the big PC bigot that I am, I did not realize how tied into the Mac the iPod and iTunes are. I should have known.

You Mac people are sooo lucky!

In this article, I will show you some of the ways you can extend your iPod with a host of very cool applications. You will also be introduced to writing custom scripts to store data on your iPod.

Extending Your iPod with iTunes and iPhoto

The iPod needs to have iTunes, which synchronizes your music with your iPod. There is a little more going on than that, however. iTunes acts as a bridge into your iPod—it is the synchronization tool. So if you can tap into the power of iTunes, you can easily move files onto your iPod.

Digital pictures are examples of files being synchronized with the iPod through iTunes. If you are lucky enough to have the iPod Photo, the first thing you should do is to move all the digital pictures from your Mac to your iPod. To do this, you need to have both iPhoto (which you already have and should be using) and iTunes. iTunes is the tool that moves and places your photos correctly onto your iPod.

Now, when you take your iPod on the road, you'll always have updated digital photos because of the automatic synchronization process within iTunes.
