Using the Empty Template

When none of the templates fit the needs of a project, you can use the Empty template to start completely from scratch. However, most of the time, you will find starting with a template easier, and if you spend some time making your own templates, you'll rarely find a situation where you have to use the Empty template. If you find yourself using the Empty template often, consider whether you can create a new template for at least some of the situations where you are now starting from a blank slate.

To create a new project with the Empty template

  1. From the File menu, choose New Project, which opens the New Project dialog box ( Figure 3.29 ).

  2. Select the Empty project, which creates a blank project with no audio or MIDI tracks; then click OK.
  3. In the Select Directory dialog box that opens, navigate to the folder where you want to save a new song or create a new folder ( Figure 3.30 ); then click OK.

  4. A new, unnamed project opens. Save it right away by choosing File > Save As and naming it ( Figure 3.31 ).
