John Chismar

John Chismar, Senior 3d Animation at MSNBC, has been working in 3D animation since 1991 and in media animation since 1993. Using 3ds max, Chismar has garnered several awards for his work: 1997 and 1998 Emmy Awards; the 3d Design magazine Big Kahuna Awards in 1998, 1999, and 2000; three Broadcast Design Association International Bronze Awards; and a 1995-96 Emmy nomination.

In the summer of 1998, John was so thoroughly disappointed with the 3D Studio Max books on the market that he emailed New Riders Publishing to explore the possibility of writing a book on 3D Studio Max. He felt that a book that walked the reader step by step through a project would be far better than any short tutorial. New Riders agreed. The result was his first book, 3d Studio Max 3 Media Animation.

Now he's written his second book, 3ds max 4 Media Animation. The book contains three new projects. The first is an animation for a theme park, the second is the animation of a futuristic voting machine, and the third is a news open for a TV station. The book also contains three Real World animations for MSNBC -- The Millennium, Decision 2000, and Newsfront (which has not yet aired).
