Norman Hollyn

Norman Hollyn is a long-time film and music editor (HEATHERS, THE COTTON CLUB, Oliver Stone’s WILD PALMS), writer and consultant who is a Professor and Editing Track Head at the USC School of Cinematic Arts. He has published nearly 100 articles in magazines and peer-reviewed journals, including the series “The View From The Cutting Room Ceiling” for the Motion Picture Editors Guild Magazine. His last two books are THE LEAN FORWARD MOMENT (on better storytelling in film, television and webprojects) and the fourth edition of THE FILM EDITING ROOM HANDBOOK (on modern editing room techniques). He has developed curriculum and given workshops worldwide, including programs for the Royal Film Commission in Jordan, the Sundance Institute, the New Mexico based Southwest Media Alliance, and the Beijing University of Technology. He has delivered workshops for companies such as Pixar Animation, Dreamworks Pictures and the Philadelphia Inquirer, and has worked as an expert witness in legal cases involving the aesthetics and history of editing.
