MacTip: See All the Weather Widget’s Weather Icons
If you want to see all the possible weather icons that the Weather widget can display, just press-and-hold Command-Option
and click on the icon at the top center of the widget (the sun, the clouds, the moon, the snow, etc.). Each time you click,
it shows another one of the icons for a town called Nowhere.
MacTip: Getting More Detailed Weather Info
If you click directly to the left of the city’s name in the Weather widget, it opens your Web browser and takes you to the
full Accuweather.com page for that city, with detailed information about that city’s weather.
MacTip: How to Monitor Weather in More Than One City
You can keep clicking-and-dragging as many Weather widgets as you’d like right out onto your desktop, and then click the little
“i” icon on the new widgets to choose the cities you want to monitor.
MacTip: From Your Yellow Pages Widget to Your Address Book
If you look up a company in the Business (Yellow Pages) widget, you can add that company’s address and phone number to your
Mac’s Address Book by clicking on the little + (plus sign) that appears to the left of the address.
MacTip: Getting “The Big Number” Using the Address Book Widget
If you’re using Dashboard’s Address Book widget, and you’d like to see your contact’s phone number larger, just click on a
contact’s phone number and it displays in really large numbers right across your screen.
MacTip: Putting Widgets Where You Want Them from the Start
If you open the Widget Bar and just click on a widget to add it to Dashboard, by default, it appears centered onscreen, and
then you can click-and-drag it where you want it. If you’d rather it just appear right where you want it from the beginning,
don’t click on it, instead, drag-and-drop it right out of the Widget Bar to right where you want it onscreen.
MacTip: Moving Widgets Where You Want Them
You can organize your widgets onscreen any way you’d like them—just click-and-drag them right where you want them.
MacTip: Shortcut for Finding More Widgets
If you want to add more widgets to your Dashboard, just Control-click (Right-click) on the Dashboard icon down in the Dock,
and a contextual menu will appear, where you can choose More Widgets and this takes you directly to Apple’s Dashboard Widgets
webpage, where you can download literally thousands of free widgets.
MacTip: Which Widgets Are Editable
Many widgets, like the Weather widget, let you edit or customize how the widget works, but some widgets are “one-trick ponies”
(they do one specific thing, so you can’t edit or change the way they operate—they do one thing and that’s it). So, how do
you know if you can edit a widget? Just move your cursor over the widget and if you can customize or edit it, a little “i”
icon will appear in the bottom-right corner of the widget. If the “i” icon doesn’t appear, you can’t edit that widget.
