If Christa Meola's book The Art of Boudoir Photography is on time [editor's note: it is!] and will be out by the holidays [editor's note: It will!], that would be a fun gift book. I looked at her site, and her work is incredibly gorgeous.
Hmm... Right now I'd go with Photoshop Masking & Compositing, 2nd Edition from Eismann, Duggan, & Porto. Most of the Photoshop folks I know these days are interested in this topic, and it delivers both a range of techniques and looks while providing context and relevant history.
I really enjoyed Joe McNally's Sketching Light, but only if you are already comfortable with your gear. If I received this book as a gift, I would be happy! : )
Sharon Steuer's Illustrator WOW! Book. The artwork is exquisite and the step by step instructions are very easy to follow. The ultimate Illustrator reference.
Thanks Tom! I wrote it for women as well as photogs—anyone who wants to look great naked :) I enjoyed Joe McNally's Sketching Light a lot as well. Haven't read Roberto Valenzuela's book yet, but planning on it! heard it was fantastic.
