Résumés for photographers
Q: DO YOU HAVE ANY TIPS ON HOW TO CREATE A CREATIVE CV/RÉSUMÉ FOR A PHOTOGRAPHER? WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THEM?
A: I haven’t had to make a résumé in years. Your portfolio is your résumé/CV. Period. Unless you’re going for a staff job. Are those even around anymore? From what I understand, a CV is still valid in the fine art world when you are submitting work to galleries. If that’s the case, then I’m probably not the best person to guide you in writing one. I can only imagine it is like writing a résumé for any other thing you would need to do that for.
I can tell you that I’ve never been asked for a résumé as a freelance photographer. Never. Ever. If someone asked I’d simply say, “Um...I haven’t had a résumé in about 12 years. You sure you need one from me?” I’d then be thinking that I might not be the right guy for the job, or the person asking for one doesn’t have a clue about hiring a photographer, and I may need to take some time educating them on the process.
