Finding Your Way Around OS X
If you just got your first Macintosh or if you just installed Mac OS X and don't know where to begin, start with this chapter. It'll give you a visual overview of what things are and tell you where to go for more details.

The Desktop
The Desktop is what you see when you turn on your mac. It's like home base; you'll get to know it well. For details about the Desktop, see Chapter 9.
This is a generic Dock. You might see other icons (pictures) in yours, and some of the icons shown above might not be in yours at the moment. Don't worry it will change constantly.
This is the Finder icon. Click once on it and the main Finder window will open. Hold the mouse button down on this icon and a menu pops up that tells you which other windows are currently open.
If something is in the Trash, press-and-hold the mouse button on the Trash basket to get this pop-up menu.
