Rendering on the Fly
Working with effects can slow down the editing process, especially if you have to render to see what the applied effects look like. Avid's Render-on-the-Fly option gives you a preview of your effects, but only in slow motion. FCP has a tool called QuickView that bridges the gap between previewing effects and taking the time to render them.

As in Avid, in FCP you can move the playhead through the clip or Timeline to see an effect. You can also use the LEFT and RIGHT ARROW keys; if you hold them down, the effect will play in slow motion forward or in reverse. FCP also has a special feature that plays the effects in slow motion frame by frame: hold down OPTION+P until you have completed your preview.
