Configuring Other User Settings
The Keyboard settings, Interface settings, and Auto-Save settings discussed earlier in this chapter are the most useful and commonly customized user settings. However, Xpress Pro offers many other settings to help you customize your workflow.
On the Settings tab of the Project window, you can modify any of the following settings:
- Audio: Using this dialog box, you can control how quickly your audio tools translate your audio changes and what you hear when performing a digital audio scrub. (For more information, see Chapter 12, "Working with Audio.")
- Bin: Besides Auto-Save settings, covered earlier in this chapter, the Bin settings dialog box includes the Double-Click Loads Objects In pop-up menu (see "Source Clip Monitor" in Chapter 2) and the Enable SuperBin option (see "Using the SuperBin" in Chapter 5).
- Bin View: These settings determine which information columns are displayed on the Text tab of a bin. (For more information on these settings, see "Working with Information Columns in Text View" in Chapter 5.)
- Capture: These settings relate to capturing media from your source tapes. (For more information, see Chapter 4, "Capturing and Importing Media").
- Correction Mode: These settings let you customize the operation of the Color Correction tool. (For more information on these settings, see Chapter 10, "Color Correction.")
- Deck Preferences: You use the Deck Preferences settings to control the operation of your DV deck or camera. Some settings pertain to logging and recording (or logging and capturing), and some pertain to creation of a digital cut at the end of your edit. (For deck preference settings related to logging and recording, see Chapter 4, "Capturing and Importing Media." For deck preference settings related to creating a digital cut, see Chapter 14, "Outputting and Exporting").
- Export: You use the Export settings to configure the kinds of files you export. You can export video and audio from Xpress Pro to many different formats: QuickTime movies, still images, Open Media Framework Interchange (OMFI) files, Advanced Authoring Format (AAF) files, QuickTime reference movies, DV streams, and so on. (For more information, see "Exporting Material to Disk" in Chapter 14.)
- Import: These settings tell Xpress Pro how to import (and convert) incoming files. (For more information, see Chapter 4, "Capturing and Importing Media.")
- Render: These settings control the sound you hear after rendering as well as the way in which motion effects are created. (For more information, see "Configuring Render-Related Settings" in Chapter 11 and "The Four Motion Effect Render Options" in Chapter 9.)
- Script: These settings control Xpress Pro's Script Integration feature, which allows you to import a script, break down the script into its shot components (called lining the script), and link clips to the script. (For more information, see "Using Script Integration" in Chapter 15.)
- Timeline: The Display tab of the Timeline settings controls the way that the Timeline displays clips and tracks in a sequence. The Edit tab contains options for controlling filler frames, flash frames, patching, monitoring, and sync-locking tracks.(You can further customize your Timeline display by creating Timeline View settings. See "Setting Up and Saving Your Timeline Display" in Chapter 5.)
- Trim: These settings control the way the play loop operates in Trim mode. You use a play loop to review your fine-tuning of a particular cut point in your sequence. (For more information on the Trim settings, see Chapter 7, "Fine-Tuning Your Edits.")
