Step Five

Press Command+J (PC: Control+J) to duplicate the Background layer. To convert this duplicate layer into a Smart Object, you have a couple of choices:

  • Go to the Filter menu and choose Convert for Smart Filters.

  • Press Control+click (PC: Right+click) on the thumbnail and from the popup list, choose Convert to Smart Object.

A small icon appears on the layer thumbnail to indicate that it is a Smart Object.
