Game Playing Perspectives
Playing perspectives define the role or point of view that the player has on the game. These perspectives include first-person, third-person, top-down, isometric, flat, side-view, and text-based.
First-person perspective is a popular choice among action game designers. In 3D shooters, the view of the gaming environment is as if the player is seeing it through the character's eyes, such as in Electronic Arts' Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, Fox Interactive's No One Lives Forever series, or id Software's DOOM III.
Genres other than action games take advantage of this popular perspective, too, including most simulations (such as Microsoft's Flight Simulator series), adventure games (Ubi Soft's Myst series), strategy games (Simon & Schuster's Star Trek: Dominion Wars), and role-playing games (Bethesda Softworks' The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind).
