Brushes allow you to turn plain paths into beautiful strokes. There are a range of brush types available in Adobe Illustrator. Calligraphy brushes are pressure sensitive and draw with various thickness. Bristle brushes behave like artists brushes and contain different bristle density, thickness, and stiffness controls.
