The quickest way to open a batch of files is to drag them onto the Dock icon. The first image appears in the window, while thumbnail previews for all the images will be displayed in the slide-out Drawer that you can hide or show using its button in the toolbar. Control+clicking the thumbnails brings up a contextual menu that enables you to select how the pictures are sorted, so that instead of arranging by name (the default) you can arrange them by date, size, path, file type, or keyword.

The thumbnails can also be manually sorted by simply dragging them up and down the Drawer as required, and dragging a thumbnail to the Trash also moves the image file to the Trash.
