Lightroom 1.4 rollout and rollback

The big Lightroom news this week was the rollout and subsequent rollback of Lightroom 1.4. The update appeared on Adobe’s Web site on March 14 and was mainly intended to add support for new camera models and improve printing on Mac OS X 10.5.

Unfortunately, reports of an “unknown error” from photos converted to DNG in Lightroom 1.4 on Windows and time stamp problems on both operating systems began appearing over the weekend. On Sunday, March 16, Lightroom’s project manager announced that 1.4 was temporarily being taken offline and recommended users revert back to version 1.3.1 until the problems were corrected. I applaud the Lightroom team for taking such swift action (over the weekend no less) to address the problem and even issue an apology.

On a much brighter note I got to catch up on some podcast viewing this week, and one of my favorites is the Adobe Creative Suite Video Podcast by Terry White. I highly recommend subscribing to this one, but be sure to download the episode where special guest Colin Smith provides a tutorial for keeping Lightroom and Adobe Bridge in sync.
