Publishers of technology books, eBooks, and videos for creative people
Since its first edition released in 1993, the Photoshop Visual QuickStart Guide by Elaine Weinmann and Peter Lourekas has been one of the most popular Photoshop books on the market, selling over two million copies in the course of its lifetime. From its humble beginnings as a slim, 266-page black-and-white volume, subsequent editions of the Photoshop VQS (as it's known to its friends) grew in bulk to match the expanded features offered in successive versions of Photoshop. With Photoshop CS2 (2005), the book weighed in at 656 pages, making it a hefty tome indeed.
In the course of planning the revision for Photoshop CS3, we decided to make some drastic changes: We split the book into two parts and revamped the layout to take advantage of all the splendor afforded by full-color printing. Part I, still named Photoshop CS3 Visual QuickStart Guide, was recast to focus on getting the beginning Photoshop user up and running and was published last year soon after release of the new software.
The authors are now putting the finishing touches on the sequel, the Photoshop CS3 Visual QuickPro Guide, which is aimed at more advanced users. In the meantime, you can get a sneak peek at the entire book by visiting Safari Books Online and purchasing the Rough Cut version.
A Rough what? you may ask. The Rough Cuts service from Safari Books Online gives you exclusive access to an evolving manuscript that you can read online or download as a PDF and print. A Rough Cuts book is not fully edited or completely formatted, but you'll get access to new versions as they are created. What's more, buying access to a Rough Cut gives you the right to comment on the book and make suggestions to the author while it's in process, giving you a unique opportunity to help shape the final product.
