5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book, October 8, 2011
This review is from: Photoshop Elements 9 for Mac OS X: Visual QuickStart Guide (Paperback)
This book by Jeff Carlson is another "Visual Quickstart Guide". And, as such, there a visuals aplenty. This is always a plus for me since I learn most readily by example, rather than by direction. All the examples are in full and easily scrutinized color. The examples he uses are very specific to the items being discussed in the text with the additional help of red letters in the text pointing to exactly which point is being illustrated. Since there are quite a few illustrations per page, I found this quite helpful.

The book is nicely arranged, with the basics of finding your way around the Elements workspace being illustrated first, then he becomes more specific with tasks as the book progresses. With just a few chapters under your belt, you will have a pretty good understanding of how Elements works. Further reading will get you into the more complicated areas of Elements such as Masks and Filters.

I would recommend this book for beginners and those who have... Read more

This review is from: Photoshop Elements 9 for Mac OS X: Visual QuickStart Guide (Paperback)
All the valid info is here but it takes way too much time to find the most valuable info given the books layout. Why not just write a book that tells the reader how to do the top ten or twenty things most photo editors want to do then use the rest of the book to give more detail to those who want it? This book takes time and patience and is not for the casual user. I think most elements users are non-professionals. Why make something complicated just for the sake of complicated?
